San Joaquin Valley, California
QC Energy, LLC specializes in Oil & Gas Exploration and Groundwater Studies in the San Joaquin Valley, California.
Over the past 30 years, we've assembled the most dependable and internally consistent geological database ever assembled for the San Joaquin Valley.
If you currently have surface and mineral rights, or if your company is actively leasing or buying properties in the San Joaquin Valley, our experience and comprehensive databases can provide you the subsurface geological context needed to accurately assess both the oil & gas potential and groundwater sustainability of your lands.

San Joaquin Valley Projects
We believe that an understanding of the regional geological context is critical, whether evaluating conventional or unconventional oil & gas prospects or sourcing non-conventional groundwater resources for treatment and beneficial use.
Ready access to accurate, reliable subsurface data can make the difference between success and failure. Historical well records are replete with factual errors and geological inconsistencies that can only be resolved by careful examination of all available data, and over the past 30 years, we have done just that.
We can provide you critical data necessary to support an accurate valuation of your holdings and aid you in discussions or negotiations with potential lessees or State, County or local agencies.

Meet the Owner/Manager
J. Scott Lewis, MSc
Scott Lewis is a consulting petroleum geologist and owner/manager of QC Energy, LLC. He graduated from West Virginia University with BS and MS degrees in Geology and began his career in 1984 as an exploration geologist with Mobil in Dallas, Texas. He joined Mobil’s onshore California group in Denver in 1985, where he was responsible for coordinating regional-scale studies in support of San Joaquin basin exploration. Subsequent to Mobil, Scott consulted extensively and was the primary author of a regional study of the SJB Temblor Fm. At that time, he also began licensing regional stratigraphic studies and digital database projects to 25+ San Joaquin basin clients.
In the mid 1990s through the early 2000s, Scott partnered with Black Coral, LLC to generate prospects and new play concepts for various JV partners, chiefly by integration of his San Joaquin data sets with an extensive 2-D seismic database. In 2006, Scott and his partner David Brewster were retained by Bayswater E&P (Denver, CO) to provide geological and geophysical support for a concentrated leasing effort targeting various unconventional light oil reservoirs in the central San Joaquin basin.
Subsequently, Bayswater entered into a joint venture with Zodiac Exploration (Calgary, AB) and their efforts in the basin included the use of horizontal drilling and hydrofracturing to tap stacked source rock intervals. The opportunity to exclusively work the San Joaquin basin for over 30 years has provided Scott with a unique perspective regarding its vast remaining oil and gas potential.
